Keeping to two standard sizes means we can keep prices low and install faster. However, we do have a small number of optional extras, such as air-conditioners, sliding doors and bi-fold doors. These can be added during the ordering process. We also have some larger models: Optipod Extra Large (5.9m x 3.5m) and Optipod Max (7.0m x 3.5m). Please contact us directly for more information about our larger models at firstname.lastname@example.org
All Optipods are the same colour. All external walls are anthracite grey. The decking is anthracite grey and the facias are Siberian Larch. The internal walls are white. We keep colours the same to keep prices low and to install faster.
Optipod complies with the latest building insulation standards for houses – as well as fire regulations for houses. It is insulated with 10cm of polyurethane insulation on all six sides (four walls plus the floor and ceiling) to maximise warmth and protection.
All Optipods come with two doors. One door is behind a Siberian Larch facia. The other is a full height double-glazed door with aluminium frames. The standard model comes with one window and the larger model comes with two windows. The window(s) are full height double-glazed with aluminium frames. We do have the option to upgrade to sliding doors, bi-fold doors, or French doors if you would prefer wider opening functionality. We also have the option of a tilt window so that you can get good air-flow through your pod without having to open the door. All door and window options are detailed in the order process.
Optipod is as secure as the average house. We use double-glazed toughened glass, and both doors are fitted with insurance rated locks. Additionally, we can provide enhanced security features and systems, or you can easily install these yourself.
Yes - but not everywhere. We will provide you with instructions about where to install heavy items in-line with the steel frame. All Optipods come with a steel plate to easily install a TV bracket. Lighter items (like artwork or photographs) can be secured anywhere. The walls are coated metal, so you can use magnets to secure lighter items. We provide you with some magnetic tape in your welcome pack that will get you started.
No. Optipod’s have been specifically designed to avoid the need for planning permission when installed in a domestic garden. Our Optipods are less than 2.5m high and less than 15 square metres in internal space - so planning permission is not required and we comply with all building regulations. The only exception is if your home is in a conservation area, in which case we recommend you seek guidance from your Council.
Optipod’s can be installed on almost any plot of land. We will ask you to supply us with several photos of your installation location at the time of ordering so we can assess the foundation requirements. Don’t worry, we’ll tell you exactly what we need to see.
Our foundation system has 12 variable-length steel feet anchored to concrete blocks buried 30cm underground. The combination of the variable-length feet and the concrete blocks can cope with a height difference of approximately 35cm. If you do have a significant slope then we'll come and visit your site to assess how we can proceed.
Unless your Optipod is South facing without any shade and you plan to spend a lot of time in it in summer, you shouldn't need air conditioning. Instead, you can open the doors and the ventilators on the back wall will allow a good flow through of air. If you do want air conditioning, we offer it as an add-on for £950 including VAT and installation. All the details are in the Build Your Pod section. Another option is a tilt window, which gives you a secure way to have an option window. We offer a tilt window as an add-on for £450 including VAT and installation. All details are in the Build Your Pod section.

Yes. While we are laying your armoured electrical cable, we will also lay a shielded Cat6 ethernet cable to connect your Optipod to your home broadband. We'll install an ethernet connection inside your home at a convenient location near your consumer unit. You may require some extra internal cabling if your router is located far from your consumer unit in your home.
